WHAT WE DO

 

In the U. S. the 6th leading cause of death is Alzheimer's disease. It's estimated that only 45% of people with Alzheimer's or their caregivers report being told of their diagnosis vs. 90% of people with cancer.

Research shows that Alzheimer's is 14% to 100% more prevalent in African-Americans than whites.

 

Our Mission

Our mission is assist in the education and public awareness of Alzheimer's disease and other health concerns related to dementia and it's impact on diverse populations, especially within the African-Americans.


Services Provided: 

  • Faith Base Educational Workshops:  Continue to educate the faith based community by offering workshops to Pastors/Congregations with information about the Alzheimer’s disease and how it affects the African American community as a whole.

  • Community Walks: Organize a community walk within the African American community to help raise more awareness about the Alzheimer’s disease.

  • Support Groups for Caregivers and Family Members: Organize support groups within the African American community who may find it difficult to travel a distance to gain support.

  • Family Consultations:  Assist caregivers/family members with making informed decisions concerning the care of a loved one who has been diagnosed with any form of dementia.   

  • Making Service Referrals: Help caregivers/families identify services that will benefit and support the entire family (Adult Day Services, Health Care Agencies, etc.)

  • Training on Caregiver Issues: Provide workshops for caregivers on issues pertaining to the Alzheimer’s disease, stress, legal issues, other health challenges, as well as grief and caring for their own personal health.

  • Resource Information: Informing families of the many resources that are within the community to assist families and their loved ones who have been diagnosed with any form of dementia.
